The EU elections matter and here

The EU elections matter and here's why you should care

When do we vote? Between May 23rd and 26th.

Who votes? European citizens aged 18 and older.

Together we decide what kind of Europe we want to live in. Because this time it’s not enough to hope for a better future: this time each and every one of us must take responsibility for it too.

How do the EU elections work? The members of the European Parliament must be elected using a system of proportional representation – so, for example, a party which gains a quarter of the votes wins a quarter of the seats. Only the lists that win at least 5% of the votes are proportionally represented.

Why should I vote in these elections?

As Europeans, we face many challenges, from migration to climate change, from youth unemployment to data privacy. We live in an ever more globalized, competitive world. Democracy seems under increasing threat, both in principle and practice. Together, we decide what kind of Europe we want to live in. Because this time it’s not enough to hope for a better future: this time each and every one of us must take responsibility for it too.
